Faculty Positions in Structural Engineering UTFSM – Chile

Post-Doc Position: Earthquake Engineering/Numerical Simulation of Structures

Students close to graduation are encouraged to apply for this post doctoral job opening in Switzerland.

About: For a research project on the seismic response of stone masonry buildings, the Earthquake Engineering and Structural Dynamics laboratory of EPFL invites applications for a post-doctoral position.

Requirements: Have a PhD Degree related to the seismic response of unreinforced masonry structures. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Experience in numerical or analytical modelling of the out-of-plane response of masonry is an advantage but not mandatory.

Entry-Level Structural Engineer Job Description – Perry & Associates, LLC

Army Corps of Engineers Research Position

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Engineer Research and Development Center – Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (ERDC-CERL) conducts numerous shake table tests. Critical equipment that must remain functional following a large earthquake is tested for private firms. Building models and other non-structural components are tested for DOD agencies. Both undergraduate and graduate students are needed to prepare for, conduct and process data for shake table tests. Their duties will include:

1) Process shake table test data including generating transfer functions and response spectra using Matlab.

2) Help with test set-up including assisting CERL staff with instrumentation.

3) Design test fixtures, including finite element analysis of fixtures and preparation of fabrication drawings.

4) Edit video of testing.

5) Other tasks defined by ERDC-CERL.

Most of this work will be done at ERDC-CERL, using computers supplied by CERL, and some may be done on campus if approved by the supervisor.

Graduate students typically work 50% time (20 hours per week)
Undergraduate students typically work 25% time (10 hours per week)

The ideal student would be a senior with an emphasis in structural engineering who plans to continue for a MS at UIUC, but other students should apply.
