Visit to re_Home

EERI and SEGSO have organized a visit to re_Home, a house built by the Illinois Solar Decathlon Team.

Why Should I Attend? Come learn about re_Home, a house built by the Illinois Solar Decathlon Team.  re_Home was especially designed to allow for rapid construction in post-disaster situations (tornadoes, earthquakes, etc) when rebuilding housing is critical. During our visit, members of the Solar Decathlon Team will tell us more about the structural engineering, sustainability, and rapid construction principles incorporated in the design of re_Home.

When? We will meet on Friday, October 17that 3pm in front of Newmark, by Matthews Avenue, from where we will drive to the house. We will need drivers, so bring your car if you have one!

Where is the house? re_Home is located at 3603 South Race Street, Urbana IL

How do I sign up? The capacity of re_Home is 40 people, so sign up for a spot. You can sign up using this form. Please let us know if you will need a ride or will be able to provide rides to the re_Home.

Clayco Site Visit

The Structural Engineers Association (SEA) is pleased to invite SEGSO members to the following site visit:

What? SEA is organizing a site visit for the Clayco high rise construction site.

When? Thursday, October 16th at 1:15 PM.

Where? Intersection of Green and Fourth.

How do I sign up? You can sign up here.

SAP 2000 Workshops

The Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) is pleased to invite SEGSO members to the following workshop:

What? SAP 2000 is a well-known and widely used structural modeling software in industry; for this reason, familiarizing yourself with it is certainly beneficial for you career as an engineer. Moreover, this is the software the Seismic Design Competition (SDC) team relies on to test different structural designs and to make predictions about our models, so those interested in participating in the SDC should definitely attend!

When? EERI will be hosting two tutorial sessions on:

Wednesday, October 15th, 5pm – SAP2000 Basics

Presented by Anahid Behrouzi, EERI-UIUC Chapter Graduate Advisor

Thursday, October 16th, 5pm – Seismic Design Applications

Presented by Travis Welt, a PhD candidate and research engineer at NIST

Where? Both tutorial sessions will occur in Mechanical Engineering Lab 1009

How do I sign up? Since we have limited computer terminals available in the lab for the workshop, anyone interested must sign-up by clicking hereNote: If you plan to attend only one of the sessions, be sure to mark your answers accordingly.
