The Spring 2017 study-buddy program helps students to connect with other on campus and online students that are taking the same course.  This is to have everybody discuss course material and be able to understand it a little bit better through collaboration with peers. With this program you will also be able to make connections with other on campus and online students which will no doubt aid in your future endeavors.  The courses that we are considering for this program are CEE462 and CEE570. Let us know if you are interested to expand the program to other courses.

SEGSO is pleased to invite and encourage current Structures graduate students to take part in the fourth annual Pen Pals Program!

Unfamiliar with Pen Pals? For the past several summers, we have been matching up current and incoming graduate students and putting them in contact with each other via email. The purpose: to discuss and address any questions or concerns incoming students might have—topics ranging from research or teaching to classes to life in Champaign-Urbana in general. Especially if you benefitted from Pen Pals when you were a new graduate student, please consider paying the favor forward to a new group of incoming students!

The Graduate Society of Women Engineers would like to share the following announcement with all SEGSO members regarding their upcoming weSTEM conference:

The Graduate Society of Women Engineers (GradSWE) is a professional development and support group advocating for graduate women in STEM. GradSWE promotes diversity in graduate education through academic, professional, and social events catering to graduate student needs. GradSWE is an inclusive organization and welcomes participation from women and men in STEM.

GradSWE’s flagship initiative, the Women Empowered in STEM (weSTEM) conference, provides graduate students with access to current and future STEM leaders, lending insight into diverse career paths stemming from a graduate degree. This annual conference is scheduled for Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the I Hotel. Applications to attend weSTEM are now open. Space is limited, so register early to secure your spot!

Hello everyone,

First off, we hope everyone is having a great summer so far. Congratulations to those who graduated in May, and we look forward to seeing everyone who is continuing on this fall!

This summer, we are continuing our SEGSO Pen Pals Program! We’ve all been new students to a university before, and this program is our way of easing the transition to a new school for the incoming Fall 2014 structures graduate students. Seeing as though you all have experience in the department now, your knowledge is invaluable to many incoming students!

Through exchanging emails, you can help new students learn more about classes, professors, and activities to get involved with on campus. You can even help with things like apartment hunting and campus life. There isn’t much time commitment to this volunteering, but it is highly valuable to incoming students who don’t know much about UIUC.
